Color: sable |
| Name: Currant |
Sex: F |
Age: 6 months |
Color: sable |
Arrived: September 24, 2002
Placed: December, 2002
These lucky girls were found abandoned on a bike path off of hiway 205
while two other less lucky ferrets were seen running away as their
rescuers approached. They coaxed the girls into their packs and rode home
with them on their bikes. The girls were scawny and one had scabs around
her neck possibly from a collar that had gotten too tight. The rescuers
took good care of them for a month before they decided ferrets were not
a good pet for them to have. Both Raisin and Currant
have a great time with other ferrets. Raisin is smaller and darker with
a black nose and Currant is larger and paler with a pink nose.
They are both from Marshall Farms.

Name: Teva
 |
Sex: M |
Age: 4.5 years |
Color: sable |
Arrived: 2001
Placed: December, 2002
Teva is a hefty happy go lucky gib that was forced into a
situation where he had to find a new home on the double or face
the alternative solution proposed by his owner's housemate: a
food source for the owner's python (who was not forced out of
his home). Apparently Teva smelled a lot more than the python
and the house mate wasn't willing to share the room with him.
Teva didn't smell, but his cage sure did! Teva is now enjoying a
lot more attention and playtime with a happy group of ferret
friends.

Arrived: November 17, 2002
Placed: December, 2002
Flavia was found as a stray in SE Portland. She may have been in a
basement for several days. She was covered with fleas upon

|
Name: Sugar Pie
 |
Sex: F |
Age: 4 years |
Color: cinnamon |
Arrived: 2001
Placed: December, 2002
Sugar Pie was owned by a young woman torn between lifestyle changes
(going off to college) and the well-being of her beloved pet. After
several months of research and careful consideration, she decided to
turn her over to CFN to find a new home. It was immediately clear to us
that Sugar Pie had been living with a case of undiagnosed insulinoma.
She had daily episodes of drooling while crouching motionless and
staring into space. Her blood test confirmed that her glucose level was
way below normal and surgery was recommended. She is recovering from her
procedure and is gaining strength and energy daily. She is open to new
ferret playmates as long as they are very gentle. Sugar Pie is from
Marshall Farms.

| Name:Grace |
Sex: F |
Age: 1-2 years |
Color: albino |
Arrived: December 14, 2002
Placed: December, 2002
Grace was dumped in her cage overnight at a local Goodwill drop
off box. While she was fairly shy when she first arrived she loved to
be handled and played with, and she quickly found a home with a
family that was specifically looking for a sweet albino girl.

|
|
| Name: Daria |
Sex: F |
Age: 3.5 years |
Color: sable |
Arrived: 2001
Placed: December, 2002
Daria has the build of an east German weight lifter. This girl is buff!
She is the product of a local breeder who had to make room for her new
breeders so she was turned in to a shelter. Makes sense to me, NOT! If
you breed them you are responsible for finding them good quality homes,
period, or stop producing more! Daria arrived with fleas, ear mites, and
an attitude. We've taken care of the first two, but have some work to do
on attitude adjustment. We hope to convince her to stop biting, but
don't think we will be able to convince her to like other ferrets. Daria
still needs to be spayed, but won't be descented.

|
|
| Name: Picara |
Sex: F |
Age: 3 years |
Color: shetland |
Arrived: 2001
Placed: December, 2002
Picara is a Spanish word used for a mischievious female rogue, a
perfect name for this scruffy stray sprite. She arrived with fleas and ear
mites and a plump body, but a sparse coat. We hope Picara's coat will improve
now that the fleas have been eliminated. Picara is one of those ferrets
that become tense when they are picked up and she has tried to bite when
being reached for to be handled. We have been rewarding her with
ferretone whenever she is handled and she seems to be settling down. She
is also very happy to be able to play with other ferrets now that her
ear mites are under control. Picara has a green tattoo in her ear that
we've seen before, but don't know the origin of.

Color: cinnamon |
Arrived: November 2, 2002
Placed: December, 2002
Pluto, Terra and Nova are a happy trio
who like other ferrets.
Their last owner had them 2 months and they were acquired from a

much attention." They have been around children of all ages.
Terra and Nova are from Marshall Farms.
Terra found a happy home on her own.

| Name: Lenore |
Sex: F |
Age: 5 years |
Color: chocolate |
Arrived: 2001
Placed: December, 2002
Lenore arrived as a skinny little rescue girl with no name or history.
She was probably used as a breeder and still needs to be sterilized.
Lenore has spent a lot of time at the food bowl since her arrival and
has gained a fair amount of weight. She is still a small girl, but has a
lovely chocolate colored coat.

| Name: Bob |
Sex: M |
Age: 1 year |
Color: Silver |
| Name: Jay |
Sex: M |
Age: 1 year |
Color: Siamese Sable |
Arrived: 2001
Placed: December, 2002
These two boys arrived from Montanna recently with their owner, who
then found he had to move yet again, but this time to Costa Rica,
where the hot steamy weather and minimal vet care prevented him
from taking these kids along. Bob and Jay are very sweet,
and Jay shows signs of deafness. We'll try them out with other ferrets
soon. Each have what appears to be the letter H tattood in his
ear.

|
| Name: Hershey |
Sex: M |
Age: 1 year |
Color: sable |
Arrived: September 4, 2002
Placed: December, 2002
Hershey was purchased as a pet for a youngster that soon ignored him.
He was turned over to a relative who wanted to do the right thing for him,
but couldn't deal with his odor. She felt he smelled really bad (his name
was Stinky), but we were not able to discern any stronger odor than your
average healthy ferret normally has. We didn't want him labelled with the
name "stinky" and since he is so darn sweet and gives lots of kisses, his
name was changed to Hershey. Hershey likes rides and enjoys going out and
looking at the world from the safety of a carry bag. His favorite games
are hide-n-seek and peek-a-boo.

|
| Name: Scooby-Doo |
Sex: M |
Age: 2.5 years |
Color: pale silver |
| Name: Shaggy |
Sex: M |
Age: 2.5 years |
Color: panda |
Arrived: 2001
Placed: December, 2002
This lanky pair of lads have more energy than is good for them: a
ferret-proofing challenge! They are also very fond of using their mouths
when playing, so probably aren't a good choice for first time owners.
They have been a bit aggressive with other ferrets, but as long as the
other ferret doesn't get too upset, they eventually discontinue the
bully behavior. Scooby has big beautiful eyes and is more silvery on
his hindquarters than Shaggy. Shaggy has the look of Wardenberg's
syndrome with small wide-set eyes, and may be deaf, but these guys
operate as such a pair, it is hard to tell how much Shaggy is picking up
from Scooby's reactions. Shaggy continues to be under observation to
determine whether or not he is deaf. Scooby-Doo and Shaggy are from
Triple F.

| Name:Mika |
Sex: F |
Age: 4 years |
Color: sable |
Arrived: October 21, 2002
Placed: December, 2002
Bud's and Mika's second owner had them for 2
years, but they were originally acquired in New Mexico.
They are ok with cats and kids. They were relenquished
because a job commitments allowed no time to give them attention. Bud is
from Marshall Farms and appears to have symptoms of adrenal disease.

|
| Name: Spumoni |
Sex: M |
Age: 2.5 years |
Color: cinnamon |
Arrived: September 3, 2002
Placed: December, 2002
Spumoni arrived as a stray through Multnomah County Animal Control.
He had several lumps on his skin that I though were mast cell tumors after
a quick look, which are very common. A second stray arrived shortly
thereafter and had a huge lump under her skin that was unmistakable as the
larvae of Cuterebra, a type of fly. You could see its breathing hole and it
was the size of a marble. I was horrified to realize later that what I had
thought were mast cell tumors on Spumoni were really smaller larvae.
Poor Spumoni had three larvae removed and had to have the wounds the
maggots created flushed and packed with antibiotic ointment twice a day.
He is doing great, but looks rediculous with shaved spots here and there on
his body. He is a very mellow ferret and appreciates a good back scratch.
He gets along ok with other ferrets. Spumoni is from Marshall Farms.

Southwest Washington Humane Society in Vancouver, where he was turned
in as a stray, didn't want to see him go. Hagrid is a big, happy,
healthy cute boy who is destined to break hearts.
Hagrid is from Marshall Farms. Have we mentioned just how cute he is?

| Name: Denali |
Sex: M |
Age: 4.5 years |
Color: dark eyed white |
| Name: Saki |
Sex: F |
Age: 4 years |
Color: silver |
Arrived: September 1, 2002
Placed: December 2002
Denali originally came to the CFN in January of 1999 after being
found in the walls of an empty apartment. He was adopted by a family
with another ferret, but was returned to the CFN later. He was
adopted again along with the rest of his current family, but again
returned to the CFN through no fault of his own. Denali has a gorgeous
white coat with a few black patches and huge black eyes. He is from a
Canadian breeder.
Saki was a petite sweetie who loves playing with people and other
ferrets and deserves to be the center of attention for a change, since
she wasn't the "favorite" of her former owner, primarily because of her
less than exemplary litterbox values. Saki died just after
surgery in September 2002. Saki was from Marshall Farms.

friend for another CFN ferret.

case of ear mites, but now that they are gone, he can enjoy his playtime
interacting with other ferrets. Geoffrey has a sweet face with a very
black nose. He is from Marshall Farms and like most ferrets from them,
he is very gentle and would be a good choice for a first-time owner.

|
| Name: Maxie |
Sex: F |
Age: 2 years |
Color: sable |
Arrived: 2002
Placed: November 2002
Maxie is a refugee from Nevada. She has a common story: ferret's owner
goes off to college and can't take the ferret with them, parents don't
want to take care of it. Luckily for Maxie, a relative from Oregon took
her in, but their situation was precarious since they were not allowed
to have pets. They noticed she was going bald and after several trips to
different vets they found out she would need adrenal surgery. This news
caused them to turn to CFN for help. Maxie is very sweet, but doesn't
really like other ferrets much. She will be undergoing surgery to remove
her left adrenal gland in the near future. Maxie is from Marshall Farms.
Maxie's surgery was a success, and her coat is stunning. This friendly little
would love to spice up your home with her fiesty attitude and
inquisative nature.

|
Name: Curmudgeon
 |
Sex: M |
Age: 4-5 years |
Color: sable |
Arrived: 2001
Curmudgeon was not a pretty sight when he arrived as a stray and it
wasn't a surprise when no one claimed the grizzled old guy. He was
scrawny with scraggly hair and fleas. He even sported a couple of wart
like protuberances. His appearance and urination behavior pointed to the
need for adrenal surgery in his near future. The surgery was difficult
with both the right and left glands removed, but he recovered quickly
and has been laying on the fat layers and filling in his thin fur for
winter. Curmudgeon prefers his own company and the company of humans
more than other ferrets. He tolerates other ferrets, but doesn't enjoy
their companionship.
Curmudgeon died at the end of November: this sweet boy was a shelter favorite
and will be missed.

|
| Name: Emma |
Sex: F |
Age: 2 years |
Color: sable mitt |
Arrived: 2002
Placed: October 2002
Not much is known about Emma. She was turned over to CFN by a vet tech
working at a clinic where Emma had been left to be euthanized since they
didn't have money to give her vet care. She was emaciated, dehydrated,
and had loose stool. The vet tech had given her supportive care until
she was stable enough to be turned over to us. Emma has steadily
continued to gain weight and doesn't appear to have anything wrong with
her health to have caused her to be in such a debilitated condition. She
is a wonderful sprite that gets along well with others and often has an
adorable expression on her face with her mouth hanging open. Emma is
from Marshall Farms.

Age: 6 months |
Color: panda/blaze |
Arrived: September 15, 2002
Placed: October, 2002
These boys both came from Petco and were relinquished with the lame excuse
of "moving". These guys are so cute it hurts, and it seems unfair for them
to have cornered the market on cute: we wish we could bottle it and spread
it around to the less fortunate ferrets. Malcom and Macduff
are both from Marshall Farms and both are deaf.

|
|
|
| Name: Winnie |
Sex: F |
Age: 1.5 years |
Color: silver mitt |
Arrived: September 3, 2002
Placed: October, 2002
A very cute and playful young sprite, Winnie was rescued by a good
samaratin from living outdoors scavenging for leftovers at a trailer park
in Winlock, WA. Apparently she had been living on her own for several
months, and was thin, infested with fleas and ear mites as well as the
larvae of Cuterebra flies under her skin. Winnie hasn't let her spell of
bad times influence her outlook on life. She has rebounded quickly gaining
weight and energy and she does a dance of joy that puts a smile on the
face anyone that sees her. Winnie is from Marshall Farms. Winnie was
adopted with Peabody in October.

Age: 4.5 years |
Color: cinnamon |
| Name: Missy |
Sex: F |
Age: 3 years |
Color: dark sable |
Arrived: 2000
Placed: August 2002
We usually alter the names of ferrets that refer to any type of biting
behavior, but we were told that Chomper is named after a dinosaur
character in the movie Land of the Lost. Chomper has had her name for a
long time and is a total sweetheart so we will make an exception in her
case. Missy is a beautiful black sable with a loving disposition. They
have been well taken care of their entire lives, but were tearfully
relinquished because of allergy problems with their first owner's
family. They have lived with young children and dogs and get along well
with other ferrets. Missy and Chomper were adopted in March of 2001, but
came back to the shelter when their new owners decided to move to
Hawaii. They are both from Marshall Farms.

people and with ferrets. Harry quickly found a home with a nice

completely thrilled with the idea of having to share her family's
attention with someone else -- even someone as cute as Harry.

(and probably other ferrets too). Cookie is from Marshall Farms.

| Name: Abigail |
Sex: F |
Age: 3.5 years |
Color: albino |
| Name: Max |
Sex: M |
Age: 2.5 years |
Color: silver mitt |
Arrived: May, 2002
Placed: August, 2002
This pair arrived with two pages of hand written biographical
information detailing their daily routine and the timing of every corn
puff and lick of ferrettone throughout the day. They obviously trained
their human well. It is hard to believe these well loved pets were
surrendered to CFN, but the retired couple could not afford to give
Abigail the adrenal surgery they found out she needed and were also
going to be traveling around the country and didn't feel they could take
the ferrets with them. They were both rescued from situations of neglect
in the past. Abigail is deaf but is very affectionate with humans and is
getting along with other ferrets. Max has been very slow to adapt to
his new situation and is still getting used to his new environment. Their
former owners did not think the pair were very bonded to each other, so
they can go to separate homes with other ferret companions. Abigail is
from Triple F and Max is from Marshall Farms.

| Name: Newt |
Sex: F |
Age: 3 months |
Color: badger/blaze |
Arrived: June 26, 2002
Placed: August, 2002
Newt is cute with a capital "C". It is hard to believe a kit this
young could manage to escape from her home and that no one would be looking
for her. She wondered into someone's back yard and was luckily found
before a predator got her or the heat took its toll on her little body.
Newt was dehydrated and skinny, but she enjoys life to the fullest. She
likes wrestling with other ferrets, playing with people, and attacking
clover flower heads when she gets the chance. Newt is totally deaf,
which is not uncommon with ferrets that have a stripe on their head.
Newt is from Marshall Farms.

Coon and Rascal were well fed by their former owner, but were
starving for attention. Both have done well with kids and dogs as playmates.
Coon is an explosive player and it is hard to believe she is a four year
old. She has exhibited Olympic jumping capabilities since she arrived.
They are both descented.
These sweet kids found a home, but came back when their new owners moved
to California. Rascal now lives in a foster home, and Coon lives and plays
with a large group of ferrets.
Coon passed away in August of 2002 and has rejoined Rascal.

Sex: M |
Age: 5 months |
Color: sable with roaning |
Arrived: May, 2002
Placed: July, 2002
A severely emaciated stray found with fleas and earmites, this
affectionate little guy is eating (and pooping) to make up for
lost opportunities. Although he is probably a month older than
Rowland, who weighed 860 grams when he arrived, Neville barely
tipped the scales at 500 grams, but he's doing his best to
catch up. Neville is very sweet. From Marshall Farms.
Neville is now a chunky big boy who plays great with people and
ferrets!

Color: sable |
| Name: Pangeo |
Sex: M |
Age: 1.5 years |
Color: sark silver |
Arrived: 2001
Placed: July 2002
Pangeo was sold as a female with biting issues that had been
returned to the pet store. His current owners purchased him
when he was 1 year of age, having lived most of his life in the
pet store (not a nice pet store I might add, we've had several
rescues that came from them). Pangeo has a cataract and may also
be deaf. The owners were having a very hard time dealing with
his biting until they got Shrek. Pangeo's personality made a
complete turn around when he got his little buddy. Shrek was
just a little guy when he met Pangeo, but he had a huge impact
on Pangeo's quality of life. Now Pangeo is very happy and
chuckles loudly when playing with his large group of ferret
friends. Like the character he is named after, Shrek is a burly
guy with a heart of gold. He still seems to be growing heavier
and sweeter every day. He loves other ferrets and people. Shrek
and Pangeo were relinquished because of finances and an
unplanned pregnancy. Shrek is from Marshall Farms and Pangeo was
probably bred at the pet store he was purchased from, but he has
been neutered and descented.

| Name: Budah |
Sex: F |
Age: ~1 year |
Color: sable |
Arrived: July 2002
Budah was found wandering the streets near the CFN's primary
veterinarian. Budah was a small but very chunky girl who obviously had
been cared for very well, and so signs were put up and an ad placed
in the newspaper to try and find her owner. While at the CFN Budah
displayed a very Zen like attitude towards life and all the attention
we lavished upon her (honestly, she moves like a wind up toy).
One of the volunteers began to call her Budah, and the name stuck.
Shortly there after Budah was reunited with her owner, where she
is once again lives happily.

| Name: Boots |
Sex: M |
Age: 7 years |
Color: cinnamon |
| Name: Bandit |
Sex: F |
Age: 7 years |
Color: silver |
Arrived: 2000
This pair of old timers still have some good times left in them after
living a good life with their first owners, who "out grew" them. They were
acquired as kits and were neutered and descented by their owners. Boots
has a very coarse coat and a bare naked tail we hope will improve with
an higher quality diet. Boots has the potential to be a lap ferret and
doesn't mind sharing his playtime with other ferrets. Bandit isn't
as friendly with other ferrets and so far has attacked the ferrets she
has met.
These two kids are doing just great in their foster home, receiving
all sorts of TLC, gaining weight, and being more active than ever before.
Boots died in early January from lymphoma. His last months were spent
in a great foster home where he was pampered, loved, and held until the
very end. Bandit is still hanging in there, with the help of her foster
mom.
Bandit joined Boots over the Rainbow Bridge in July of 2002. In
her last few months Bandit amazingly made friends with Alex, another
special needs ferret owned by her foster mom. All of us miss Bandit.

Placed: July 12, 2002
China was a scraggly stray that arrived with an ulcerated bald patch
on each of her haunches. The only thing that we could imagine could have
caused that was urine burns from laying in filth. We will never know,
but she has gained 200 grams since she arrived and the fur has started
to grow in nicely already. China is a beautiful very well adjusted
gentle ferret from Marshall Farms.

Name: Shalimar

Sex: F |
Age: 5 years |
Color: cinnamon |
Arrived: 2002
Shalimar arrived with Shariff:
this couple's current caretakers rescued them from a situation of neglect
where they were infested with fleas and ear mites, given poor quality
food and allowed no play time. The rescuers were unable to keep
Shalimar and Shariff because of changing living arrangements. Shalimar
has various health issues and was not particularly happy to
share her cage with anyone, and so Shariff was paired up with another
shelter ferret. Shalimar is from Marshall Farms.
Shalimar crossed over the Rainbow Bridge in June of 2002.

| Name: Butters |
Sex: M |
Age: 2 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: June
Arrived: May, 2002
This guy is so animated, you have to see him to believe how happy and
excited one roly-poly guy can be -- he is very talkative, very stocky, and
carries his tail held up in the air as he bounces around. Butters
loves any interaction with people or other ferrets, and as far as he's
concerned everything is just swell. You have to meet him in person to
fully appreciate all of his buttery goodness. Butters arrived as a stray
and was never claimed, but it's hard to believe no one was missing this
super cute boy. Butters looks like he is from a local breeder.
As expected, Butters was so popular he actually had a waiting list
of people who wanted him, and so he found a wonderful new home very
quickly.

Huggers and Abby are real sweethearts who were purchased for
a teenager from Petco, who then ignored them for more than a year. The
teenager's parent's weren't taking good enough care of them, and so
relatives stepped in to help get the ferrets into a better environment.
Abby's lower left canine protrudes outward (hence her unusual name).
Both have been around cats, and both play like youngsters.
Huggers and Abby went to the same wonderful home as Bart and Lisa!

This duo was given to the former owner as a birthday present and were
given up after a year because the owner needed to lighten the pet load
in the home. According to him, they just got into too much trouble
whenever they were allowed to play out side their cage (prison). Bart
is a big burly boy and Lisa is a petite girl. Bart and Lisa lived with
dogs, cats and kids in their former home. Lisa is from Marshall Farms,
but Bart does not have any tattoos to identify his origin.
Bart and Lisa went to the same great home as Huggers and Abby.

Name: Tiffany
 |
Sex: F |
Age: 3 years |
Color: sable |
Died: May 24, 2002
Tiffany is the casualty of a divorce. Because of her owner's
situation, her signs of adrenal disease were not attended to. She arrived
looking as if someone had played a cruel joke on her by trying to make
her look like a recently groomed poodle: her entire body was totally bald,
but she has normal fur on her head, legs and the last half of her tail.
Maybe her embarrassing appearance explains her lack of patience when having
to endure anything she doesn't enjoy. Tiffany is not shy about letting
humans know when she isn't happy about something they are doing, a swift
nip is the result. Tiffany is a talker who seems to enjoy roughhousing
with ferret buddies and is never short on energy. She recently underwent
adrenal surgery and we are anxious to see how she will look and behave
once the over active secretions from the removed gland dissipate. Tiffany
is from a breeder in Canada.
Tiffany exudes confidence and attitude, and she's a joy to be around, as
long as you're human!
Tiffany was more to us than just another furry face -- we took her
into our home as a foster ferret, but she became one of the
family. Tiffany loved getting out for walks and hand wrestling
with her people, and she had enough attitude for any five
normal ferrets. We lost our dear little Tiffy quite unexpectedly
near the end of May. Her activity level and appetite had dropped
suddenly, and a trip to the vet resulted in blood tests that
indicated lymphoma. Less than two weeks later our little
sweetheart was gone. While the loss of any of our pets is
hard, losing a loner, like Tiffany, who needed us the most
and gave us the most back in return has been almost
unbearable. We still expect Tiffany to be ready to come
out to play after our other pets have gone back to sleep,
we catch ourselves making up her medications in the evening,
and we still can't believe our Tiffer Toes has left us.

| Name: Pumpkin |
Sex: M |
Age: 1.5 years |
Color: butterscotch |
| Name: Acorn |
Sex: F |
Age: 1.5 years |
Color: dark sable |
Placed: May
Pumpkin and Acorn are looking for a new home because the work
schedule of their owner left them alone for days at a time and they were not
getting any human interaction. Acorn was previously owned by an
acquaintance of the current owner and Pumpkin was purchased to help keep
Acorn company when they were left alone. The owner felt their current
situation was unacceptable and she arranged to have them transported to
CFN. Unfortunately she was apparently unaware that Acorn had a huge
abdominal tumor that should have been addressed long ago. We rushed
Acorn to the vet to be evaluated for surgery to remove the growth. The
vet thought it was a left adrenal gland, but it turned out to be her
left kidney that was swollen with urine because of a blocked ureter. The
surgery went well and she is doing great with her remaining kidney.
Pumpkin and Acorn are both from Marshall Farms.

|
| Name: Ferdinand |
Sex: M |
Age: 2 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: May
Ferdinand seems insecure despite his enormous size. He was found as an
unneutered stray and was never claimed. Ferdinand hates being in a cage
and has thrown a tremendous tantrum since arriving, repeatedly unhooking
his hammock, dumping his litterpan, and even banged so hard and long at
his cage mesh that he caused the cage to shimmy off the table! We put up
barriers to prevent the cage from moving and finally found a hammock
attachment that he couldn't destroy. He has calmed down a lot since
being neutered in early March.
Ferdinand is quite the sweat-heart: he adores people and loves all
other ferrets (so much so that he now shares a cage with Bethwyn).
Ferdinand has obviously spent his entire life couped up in a cage,
and is just now learning how to play, but he's proving himself
to be a gentle giant. Ferdinand has great balance and frequently
stands up on his hind legs to peer about, looking like a small
river otter.

This beautiful sprite couldn't live up to the expectations of the person
that adopted her as a buddy for her first ferret. Topaz didn't turn
out to be as "perfect" as the original pet: she didn't use the litterpan
100%, "smelled", and would nip people other than her owner. She must be
on her best behavior since coming back because we haven't had any issues
with her and she is a wonderful playmate with other ferrets. Topaz is
from a local breeder and has not been descented.

Sex: M |
Age: 3.5 years |

Placed: May
This gentle and friendly pair of ferrets started out
on the wrong foot with humans: their previous owners
kept them for only four days before deciding they didn't
like ferrets. It took almost that long for
Pele and Sinjin to find a new permanent
home with doting a doting family to pamper them as
is befitting ferrets.
Relinquished from a good home because
the owner developed severe allergies to ferrets. Sinjin has shown
symptoms of adrenal disease in the past, but is currently not exhibiting
any signs of the problem. This pair is from Marshall Farms.
Sinjin died unexpectedly the night after adrenal surgery in early May.
Mercifully Pele found a home with another friendly ferret a short
time later.

doesn't affect her desire to talk, and you can hear her chuckle with
enthusiasm during play time. Currently Sprint comes out to play

| Name: Zenith |
Sex: F |
Age: 3 years |
Color: silver |
Placed: April
It is pretty sad what some people think is adequate care for their
ferret. This ferret was found and the family was delighted to keep her
since their son had wanted a ferret, but they didn't want to pay the
cost of getting one from a pet store. They had no idea how old Zenith
was and she given no vaccines or vet care while she lived with them. The
son moved out of state to live with another relative and the ferret had
to be left behind and was brought to CFN. Zenith arrived thin with a
very sparse coat of fur and loaded with fleas. She was also living with
a very healthy population of ear mites. They were very proud of the cage
they had bought for her, but it had nothing in it except one of those
cheap nylon hammocks. Not all ferrets are happy to arrive in a shelter,
but I think Zenith has benefited from it. She is much happier without
the fleas and ear mites, eating a higher quality food, and enjoying the
multiple fleece lined hammocks and sleep sacks in her cage. Zenith is
from Marshall Farms.
Zenith went home with her cage-mate, Shariff!

cannot support his body, and ends up dragging his hindquarters. Because
of his injury he does not have control over his bowels and must have his
bladder evacuated manually. In addition to his paralysis, Felix also
has a chordoma at the end of his tail which needs to be surgically

Luna is the oldest but sweetest ferret of he group of retired

Sweet little Luna died during surgery in early April. Luna had a
variety of health problems, not the least of which was lymphoma,
although she put up a brave fight while she was with us. We will
certainly miss her gentle nature.

Age: 1.5 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: March
Kodiak is a gorgeous bear of a boy that arrived as an unneutered

ping-pong balls. He was neutered February 20th and has not completely
eliminated the testosterone from his system yet. We are waiting for another
week or so before we introduce him to other ferrets (he's been in with
other ferrets for short sessions already, and he is amazingly gentle
with them, although his obsessive need to hold other ferrets down and
groom them isn't appreciated by everyone).
Kodiak has calmed down a great deal and now plays with a large

Sapphire is a beautiful sprite with burgundy eyes and a soft

his home as was living on the street. Sapphire was left behind
on the porch and when her water ran out, we got a call from her
temporary caretaker who was physically unable to get her more
water because of mobility problems. We rushed over to retrieve
her from a cage full of feces with empty food and water
containers. Luckily she was in good condition except for a small

| Name: Jasmine |
Sex: F |
Age: 5 years |
Color: silver |
Placed: March
This sweet girl was loved by her former owners. Sadly, Jasmine started
showing undeniable signs of adrenal disease about 6 months ago and her
owners wanted to do the right thing for her, but they could not figure
out a way to come up with the hundreds of dollars necessary to do the
surgery so they decided to turn her over to us where they knew she would
get the medical care she needed. They were Jasmine's second owners and
have enjoyed her companionship for 3 years. Jasmine was given regular
vet care and vaccinations and fed high quality food. She is from
Marshall Farms.

| Name: Griffin |
Sex: F |
Age: 2 years |
Color: chocolate sable mitt |
| Name: Recon |
Sex: M |
Age: 2 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: February
Griffin is a very attractive and active girl with white mitts,
bib, and kneepads. Recon (short for reconnaissance) is extremely
athletic, jumping and scaling things to thoroughly explore his environment.
They have been well taken care of, but are victim of the common malady
of being owned by a minor that lost interest in them as they matured. They
play well with people and other animals (including other ferrets). They
are both from Triple F. |

| Name: Casper |

Color: albino |
| Name: Gypsy |
Sex: F |
Age: 1.5 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: February
Casper and Gypsy were rescued by some good Samaritans
after being abandoned by their former owners a few months ago. Unfortunately
the new home the good Samaritans found for them didn't work out, so the
pair ended up coming here to find a new home. They are both from Marshall
Farms. |

| Name: Katie |
Sex: F |
Age: 4.5 years |
Color: albino |
Placed: February
This retired breeder tolerates other ferrets and seems to be more
trustworthy as far as nipping than some of the other ferrets from the
same breeder. Katie has a beautiful coat and a solid body.
Katie went with Smike to a home and joined two other ferret playmates.

|
|
| Name: Smike |
Sex: M |
Age: 1.5 years |
Color: sable |
Placed February
Smike had the misfortune to be owned by a totally irresponsible pet
owner who left him in his cage in the rain next to a dumpster without
food, water or any shelter. Smike escaped from his cage and went
wondering around the dumpster area before a neighbor noticed him and
called us. Luckily Smike was still in the area by the time we got there
to rescue him. Smike plugged into the food bowl as soon as he got here
and has put on some weight. He moves abnormally in the hindquarters
which may be because of muscle atrophy from being cage bound. Smike has
a great personality despite his unfortunate history and seems to like
other ferrets. He is from Marshall Farms.
Smike went with Katie to a home and joined two other ferret playmates.

Age: 1.5 years |
Color: cinnamon |
| Name: Sasparillo |
Sex: M |
Age: 1 year |
Color: cinnamon |
Placed: February
This beautiful duo was owned by the same person since they were kits.
Sassafras and Sasparillo have been around kids and dogs in
their past home. They were sadly relinquished because their owner had a baby
and was forced to live with relatives that do not like ferrets. Sassafras
and Sasparillo are both from Marshall Farms.

| Name: Marcelle |
Sex: M |
Age: 1 year |
Color: butterscotch |
| Name: Colette |
Sex: F |
Age: 1 year |
Color: sable mitt |
Placed: February
These two make a very stylish pair and have really wonderful
personalities. Collette is black with a dark nose, white toes, and big
ears. She begs for human attention, but gets along well with other
ferrets. Marcelle is a beautiful caramel color with facial markings
that make him look like he is in mime make-up. They lived with cats in their
former home and are looking for a new home because of their owner's
"lack of time" (the number one excuse for given for why ferrets end up
here). Marcelle and Collette are both from Marshall Farms.

Name: Rascal
 |
Sex: M |
Age: 4 years |
Color: dirty butterscotch |
Died: Mid February
Coon and Rascal two were well fed by their former owner, but
were starving for attention. Both have done well with kids and dogs as
playmates. Rascal acts his age and is descented.
These sweet kids found a home, but came back when their new owners moved
to California. Rascal now lives in a foster home, and Coon lives and plays
with a large group of ferrets.
Rascal died after a very long struggle with ADV. His foster mom
poured attention, love, and constant care upon this boy until
the very end. Rascal will not be forgotten.

Color: sable |
| Name: BamBam |
Sex: M |
Age: 1 year |
Color: silver |
Placed: February
BamBam and Pebbles were acquired through impulse pet store
purchases and
ended up in the custody of a person that was responsible enough to know
he did not have the resources to take proper care of the pair even
though he had become very attached to them after they had been abandoned
by an acquaintance. BamBam and Pebbles have been around cats and dogs
and get along with other ferrets. Pebbles is from Marshall Farms and
BamBam's origin is unknown.

| Name: Allegro |
Sex: M |
Age: 1.5 years |
Color: cinnamon |
| Name: Sonnet |
Sex: F |
Age: 1.5 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: February
Allegro and Sonnet have been in three homes in their short
life, mostly because of ignorant owners that made an impulse decision
about owning a ferret. Their current owner has had them for
about 6 months, but is now moving to California. She commented
that they have always been skinny and they definitely arrived
very under weight. They had been kept outside "up in the
mountains" and fed a poor quality diet. Luckily their under
weight condition was easily remedied with continuous access to a
high quality diet. They have both been eating (and pooping)
almost non stop since they got here! Miles was added just
prior to their coming to the CFN and he was
placed separately.
These ferrets are very gentle and have been
around cats, dogs, and kids. Allegro and Sonnet are
from Marshall Farms.

|
|
| Name: Mustang |
Sex: M |
Age: 2 years |

Escher arrived at the CFN with his buddies Mustang
and Sprint. Escher loves to give kisses,
but has a heart condition and has adrenal disease (he'll have
surgery soon), Mustang is a big sweet, happy boy who has
something akin to cerebral palsey, and Sprint is a typical fiesty
silver girl with a lot of spunk and attitude.

| Name: Bonnie |
Sex: F |
Age: ~10 years |
Color: sable |
Name: Lena

Sex: F |
Age: 5 years |
Color: sable |
| Name: Weeble |
Sex: F |
Age: 7 years |
Color: sable |
Placed: January
You couldn't find a more charming threesome of sable girls anywhere.
These ladies have lead the good life, being spoiled by their loving owner,
but unfortunately they are victims of the illegal status of ferrets in
California. The trio get along well with cats and dogs. Lena and
Weeble like to go on walks. Bonnie and Weeble are thieves,
stealing keys in particular. Lena and Weeble are both from Marshall Farms
and Lena has had several surgeries for adrenals and insulinomas. We would
like to see all three go together.
Bonnie passed away in her foster mother's loving arms in late April
of 2001. We dearly miss this sweet old girl who gave so much to us all.
Weeble joined Bonnie beyond the Rainbow Bridge in mid June. Weeble
loved to cuddle with people, and used to spend chilly mornings
sleeping inside Leonard's bathrobe while he read email or ate breakfast.
She passed away in the care of her devoted and loving foster mom.
Lena was basically adopted by her foster mom some time ago, but
we've been slow to move her onto the adopted page, so she's
listed now as having that wonderful home which she has enjoyed
for quite some time now.
