July 4, 2004 Hillary has been sponsored by Clyde Prince. Hillary had already been bounced through three homes prior to arriving at the shelter in 1999 at the age of at least 3 years. She was adopted with another ferret, Gizmo, later that year, but returned after two years when her owners moved to California. She has adjusted well to her return and enjoys her playtimes with Gizmo, but it is highly unlikely that she will ever be adopted at her age. If that isn't bad enough, her longtime cagemate, Gizmo had to have emergency surgery recently to remove a foreign body from his digestive tract (he chewed up and swallowed the tongue of a shoe at his foster home). Gizmo survived, but the pair had to be separated from each other for a few days. When they were reunited they attacked each other as if they had never met, so now she is without a ferret playmate. She also recently started to exhibit signs of low blood sugar and when her glucose level was tested we found out that it was indeed well below normal. She is now on daily prednisone to help maintain her glucose levels. She is still a very active and playful girl and loves green peppers and cucumbers. At over 8 years of age, she is one of the very few ferrets in the network that has not had to have a surgery. Her fur is a bit thin on the tip of her tail, but otherwise you would never think she was such an old lady. She often leaves her tongue poking out of her mouth which never fails to put a smile on the face of anyone that notices it. Hillary's sponsorship will help cover the costs of her daily medication which she will need for the rest of her life.
